Last Month in January of 2002 we attended a Talk lead by Jack Rinella. During his talk on Old Guard he spoke of the Old Guard the history of BDSM as far back as the 1800's and the Marquis de Sade's but he pointed out the there was most likely a longer History of BDSM in the heterosexual community, but that in fact there was a large gap in documentation most likely due to the fact that it was a highly guarded secret. After the talk, being in the internet business and having a inquiring mind I started looking for some reference materials and in fact there is little to none. There are many sites that are devoted to the history in the gay community and in the leather community of years ago which was primarily gay. When I first came into the LifeStyle I was 20; my mentor had been involved in the LifeStyle for over 40 years at that time. That would have put his start back around 1936. As a young man I do remember some of his stories but not many as I was exploring the new feelings and the new acceptance of this LifeStyle. So to stop this rambling I have started a project to try to dig up any history of the heterosexual BDSM communities of the early to mid 1900's pre 1970. If you have any information we would appreciate the tip, or if you know of any one that was in the LifeStyle or had interacted with the heterosexual BDSM community during this time frame we would be eager to talk with them. Now as an older man these stories would be of great interest to me. As we all get older every year this important information is fading away. EPE Dominion As a side note: In an effort to discredit us on the start of this project we where both accused as being homophobic on a national leather group by: a local BDSM group. The great news was that they where shut down by many on the group that felt this was a worthy project. We hope it is understood that we are looking to preserve this history as there are very few people perusing this plane of research.
